Lookbooks Show off your latest fashion line….

“Lookbook” is the term used to reference a collection of images that are assembled to help illustrate and promote the “look” of fashion designs.

Lookbooks are like your portfolio except that they showcase your latest line. Traditionally a fashion designer or a brand creates a look book in order to give a sneak preview and to generate excitement among customers and store buyers about a fresh new design.  Having a professionally designed and equally important, high-quality printing of your lookbook gives your company and your brand increased credibility and enhances how your designs are perceived by industry professionals.

Lookbooks allow potential buyers and fashion industry writers to be able to appreciate your brand’s style and personality without actually having to wait for a live fashion show or physical coming to your showroom.

You’ve worked hard, maybe years to develop your new line and now you’ve got to sell it to the world. Look books give you the ability to showcase your line in a visually appealing manner. A professionally printed lookbook will let buyers know that you are serious and have given much care and thought to your collection.

Lookbooks Are Perfect for a Variety of Fashion and Design Collections:

  • Footwear FashionsFashion Lookbooks
  • Pocketbook Designs
  • Lingerie Styles
  • Women’s Designer Fashions
  • Children’s Fashions
  • Eye wear Collections
  • Jewelry Collections

The best look books all have at least four common factors:

  1. Great photography. This is an area where you don’t want to go cheap.  Remember, a “picture is worth a thousand words”.  And you want those images shot in a manner that reflects the feel of your designs.  You might ask the photographer for a “clean look” or a “rugged look”. You might want your models photographed in all white studio or and an old abandon factory.  And give some consideration to the type of model you want showing off your designs.  Ideally, you’d want the model to be similar in look to your target customers.  And finally, as you layout the design for your look book make sure the photographic images are big and prominent on the page.
  2. Keep the text to a minimum. If you’ve done your job hiring a great photographer then let the pictures speak for themselves. There will be plenty of time later to share the details.  With a lookbook you’re trying to set a mood and images are much better at doing that than words.
  3. One image per page. For the most part you’ll want only one good image to showcase your line.  Too many images on the page start to clutter up the page.  If you want to highlight a particular embellishment or trim then add a close up of that feature but otherwise keep the page layout clean and simple.
  4. As with the photographer make sure your lookbook is printed by a high quality, professional printing company. The printed book is really your portfolio and should look it’s best.  Not all printers are the same.  Some copy shops call themselves printers but the equipment they would be using on your project will not give good results.  Look for a printer that has lots of 5-star reviews and that is willing to show you samples of other lookbooks they’ve printed.  And while you might not be savvy with the printing industry lingo do ask what equipment your look book will be printed on and ask them what is special about that particular piece of equipment. A quality printer will be happy to talk about their equipment and willing to spend some time educating you about how your project is going to be printed.
